Unlocking over £2 million from process improvement on the Underground

This includes the Jubilee, Piccadilly and Northern lines of the London Underground. An essential part of this service is keeping the stations and trains clean and litter free. The train operator outsources this function to a specialist cleaning company.
 

The excellent level of service provided by the cleaning company ensured that their contract was renewed – but there was a catch. The new terms of the contract meant that they were now operating at a loss; this is when they came to us for help.
 

  • We began analysing - We analysed current working methods before establishing the project programme and objectives.

  • Watched the cleaning operations first hand - Going right into the underground

  • We made sure that we had an accurate view of the entire cleaning processes - All from litter picking to deep cleaning functions.

  • Introduced new cleaning products that were more effective - We also developed new, cost effective procedures and outlined some creative approaches to savings

 

 

We identified savings of over £2 million, and over half a million were already implemented within a ten week programme

We were asked to find at least £1.2 million in savings on train cleaning operations
