Countering Terrorism for Heathrow Terminal 2
Heathrow had developed a plan with the Metropolitan Police for nine-day counter-terrorism search operation carried out by specialist units.
But, the terminal was still under construction, providing an ever-changing environment and making it impossible for the essential security activities to go ahead as planned. With an open-day set in stone, they needed someone to come in and manage the project from the ground up. They asked RESULT to assist.
Delivering a time-critical project;
We were asked to manage the project, essentially going back to the very start and ensuring a suitable structure was in place. We assessed the project and introduced robust management framework focused on collaboration, lean processes and communication.
-
Set objectives
-
Created governance and work breakdown structures
-
Created communication plans
-
Established control measures
In keeping with our lean principles, we also ensured non-value add and over-formalised processes were avoided!
A high degree of assurance that areas were free of threats and the terminal was safe to open to the public.
New processes and compliance documentation created for seven security searches.
Over 230 resources supplied and coordinated to support the 190 police officers during the main operation.
Far reaching impact of the project prepared, i.e. introduction of business-as-usual access restrictions.
All stakeholders fully aligned to the project and committed to their deliverables
Heathrow’s £2.5bn redevelopment of Terminal 2 was completed in June 2014
